Influence of Hydrocortisone on Pressor Response of Rabbits to Vasopressin

Abstract
In rabbits, influence of hydrocortisone (HC) on the pressor responses to vasopressin (VP) and influences of HC and VP on the pressor responses to norepinephrine (NE), epinephrine (E), tyramine (T) and angiotensin (AT) were investigated. The results were 1) HC (10mg/kg) treatment produced greaterpressor responses to VP (50 mU/kg) than control responses. 2) Responses to VP increased each time when given repeatedly at intervals of 60 to 90 min. 3) VP, when given during infusion of HC (0.15-0.2 mg/kg/min for 90 to 180 min) and/or VP (15-20 ¥ìU/kg/min for 90-to 180 min), produced greater pressor responses than control responses. 4) HC infusion potelitiated the pressor effect of E and NE, though the potentiation of NE was less. Pressor response to T and AT was not potentiated. 5) VP potentiated the pressor response to E, NE, T but not AT. 6) Potentiating effect of UC and VP on the pressor responses to. VP itself and pressoragents was not synergistic. 7) From these observations it was inferred that mechanism of potenitation by VP and HC of the responses to VP itself and pressor agents will be the same, though it is unknown.
